Politics in America, or Why We Are Doomed
I saw a news headline today that did further damage to my already scarred brain:
GOP fears war could help Dems for years
That’s right, that’s exactly what it says. A war that has maimed and killed hundreds of thousand of people, displaced millions of people, left a nation in ruins, and cost hundreds of billions of dollars…and the Republicans are worried about the political cost to themselves? I hardly even know what to say, presumably the Democrats are the flip side of the coin and are equally pleased that the war will help them win elections for years. I couldn’t illustrate better why America is doomed, all our leaders care about is their political careers. We need to wake up as a country and recognize that our government has turned into a malignant cancerous growth that hasn’t even tried to do it’s job for decades.
Sigh. While I am ruining people’s days, here is a wonderful report on how rife corruption is in Iraq and how much money has been misspent. Yeah, they really needed an Olympic sized pool in Baghdad. Speaking of Iraq, the recent “battle” in Najaf is looking more and more problematic. First it was claimed that it was insurgents trying to kill Sistani, then the story changed to it was some sort of Doomsday cult. Now it looks like it may simply have been an ugly massacre, and the other stories were desperate attempts to cover up murderous incompetence in the Iraqi and US militaries.
There is good news though. The International War Crimes Tribunal is going to try it’s first defendant. One criminal in five years, at this rate the world’s war criminals will be dead for centuries before they have to worry about being brought to justice. God help us all, because our leaders sure aren’t going to.
