Doesn’t Anyone Use Their Brain Anymore?
OMG, run for your life!
If you see a small sign with a lighted cartoon character on it, what would be your reaction? Well, if you are in Boston, apparently you would assume you were under attack by Al Qaeda! I mean, anyone with half a brain can see that the device above is a toy! What in the name of God is wrong with this country? Or more specifically, what the hell is wrong with Boston? These toys were placed in Boson many other cities weeks ago and most people were smart enough to realize they weren’t a threat. And now, the Boston police, ashamed to admit they over-reacted to a non-threat are trying to blame the advertising company that placed the toys around the city.
Dear God, the real terrorists must be soiling themselves with laughter. Quick, now we can spot Al-Qaeda members by looking for the Arabs with brown stains on their robes. Maybe I need to add a new category to this blog…stupidity. What most annoys me is this is because our decider-in-chief has spent his whole term in office doing his damnedest to scare Americans and make us afraid of everything that goes bump in the night. The media isn’t helping either, they go along with this crap by calling these toys “suspicious devices” and basically lauding the authorities for going kookoo bananas. What the hell ever happened to “we have nothing to fear but fear itself?” The new motto appears to be “be afraid, be very afraid…all the time.”
Reality check…the threats facing the USA are no worse than the threats it has ever faced. (With one possible exception.) The world is a dangerous place, sometimes bad things happen. Going ballistic over every little blip on the radar screen doesn’t make us any safer. In fact the opposite, people get so on edge that they can’t tell what is real and what is memorex. If Bush had been in charge at the Battle of New Orleans he wouldn’t have said “Don’t fire till you see the whites of their eyes.” More like “I see something moving, open fire.” By the time the British really showed up his army would have been low on ammunition and their nerves would have been shot. (Kind of like how they are now.) Mark my words, when there is another attack in the USA, our defenders are going to respond like they did last time. They are going to run around like chickens with their heads cut off, and blame everyone on the planet but themselves for their manifest failures.
Hysteria doesn’t make us safer. Spending countless trillions of our grandchildren’s money on “homeland security” and “defense” doesn’t make us safer. Invading and occupying foreign lands doesn’t make us safer. Stretching our military to the breaking point doesn’t make us safer. Freaking out every time some nut-bar on the other side of the world looks at us cross-eyed doesn’t make us safer. Using common sense and getting on with our lives would make us as safe as can be, but we sure aren’t going to hear that from Washington where terrorist fear mongering has been the most mind-numbingly profitable scam since the Cold War. Dear God, chill out people.
Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
