Stupid stupid stupid
This one was clear cut.
The genius of you Americans is that you never make clear-cut stupid moves, only complicated stupid moves which make us wonder at the possibility that there may be something to them which we are missing. —Gamal Abdel Nasser
Bush’s wars have been really upsetting me lately. Three countries plunged into endless violence, hundreds of thousands dead, millions wounded and homeless, and the dollar ruined as Bush borrowed the money from our real enemies to fight his insane wars. Not to mention our international reputation in tatters and our Army exhausted and strained to the limit. And what is his solution, aside from whining and blaming everyone but himself? He wants to spread the war to Iran and Syria; yeah, more war is going to fix this mess. Calling Bush a one trick pony is an insult to ponies. All in the name of fighting a criminal gang that was a minuscule threat to the USA, a gang whose leader Bush still hasn’t managed to kill or capture yet. Bush is easily the most incompetent American president in history, and his reign of stupidity is not over yet.
In Iraq the US has continued work on a wall they are building to segregate a neighbourhood in Baghdad, despite the fact that Maliki, the so called Prime Minister of Iraq, ordered the construction halted and despite the fact that thousands of Iraqis braved death by car bomb to march in the streets and protest being walled up like cattle. So much for Iraq being a sovereign nation. Any war apologists out there want to regurgitate the propaganda about Iraq being a sovereign nation now, save it for a bathroom wall.
Not to mention that this is one of the dumber ideas the USA has had in Iraq. Building a wall around a neighbourhood is turning it into a ghetto. It’s going to make us less popular and it will inhibit the movement of our troops far more than it slows down the insurgents. And do we really think the Iraqis are just stupid fighting animals and if we wall them off from one an other the problems will magically go away? Apparently. This is what comes of having an army whose high command is selected on the basis of how good their ties are to the weapons industry, we have generals who couldn’t fight a war to save their lives. Of course their lives aren’t on the line, just brave American soldiers and the innocent people of Iraq, Afghanistan, and Somalia.
And just in case the reader hasn’t been paying attention, American casualties in are surging nicely. Over four thousand Americans have died in Iraq and Afghanistan now. Tens of thousands are maimed, hundreds of thousands have mental scars that will last for years or decades. Will flying our flags at half staff will make this all better? No.
In Afghanistan the fighting continues to intensify as Afghanis do what have done best for centuries, fight to get foreign invaders out of their country. The investigation into Pat Tillman’s death uncovers layer after layer of deception. I’m honestly beginning to wonder if he wasn’t deliberately killed because he was going to go public about his opposition to the war.
And in Somalia, real fun. Very simple summary there. Somali Islamists bring peace and stability to the country for the first time in decades. Bush’s response? Arrange for an Ethiopian Christian army to invade the country (assisted by American special forces, air strikes, and money) and install a puppet government. The predictable result…mass bloodshed. This isn’t making the papers though, since brown people killing brown people simply isn’t newsworthy. An Asian guy murders a few white college students and it’s a “national tragedy,” Bush plunges another Islamic country into violence and war, and most Americans haven’t even heard the news. And some people still wonder why they hate us.
So yes, I’ve reached the point where I’m no longer interested in being particularly diplomatic about Bush’s wars. Anyone who still supports Bush’s wars and they or their family members aren’t veterans or serving in the military, your country needs you now more than ever. Join the military and help fix what you started, or join the vast majority of your fellow Americans who want Bush’s comic book inspired wars ended. It’s time to piss or get off the pot. I’ll still listen to veterans though, even if I disagree with them. Because I’m not the one spitting on veterans, it’s Bush and the cowards (Democrat and Republican both) who brought us this stupidity and still support him that are spitting on America’s soldiers and everything they ever fought and died for.
(The above picture of Bush being stupid is claimed as Fair Use under US copyright law. It is an historically important image and it is not being used for profit. It’s not really central to illustrating the post though since this moment of stupidity didn’t kill anyone.)
