…forced me to take a several day hiatus from writing. Nothing serious. No, Homeland Security didn’t drag me away to some secret concentration camp as a threat to the nation’s freedom. The concentration camp conspiracy people have been working overtime though, they have “documented” dozens of concentration camps that are being quietly set up by FEMA to house millions of Americans in some no doubt diabolical plot. They look like trailer parks to me. Frankly, these people watch too many Hollywood movies. There’s three basic flaws to this conspiracy theory…
First, one has to assume that the government is able to take massive preparations for this operation on the sly. Our government you say? The one that couldn’t prepare for a hurricane or the occupation of a foreign nation even when it was obvious that some planning and preparation was needed? The second hurdle is that a concentration camp can be built in a few hours. A few tents, a few rolls of barbed wire, a few guys with guns and voilá…one concentration camp. There is some reason to build them more than a few hours in advance? No.
Lastly of course putting millions of Americans in concentration camps basically means declaring martial law. Martial law would require millions of soldiers. Right now we aren’t even able to enforce martial law in Baghdad, I don’t know how we would do it in Detroit or Philadelphia. If there is some national crisis and the president drafts a few million Americans, then I’ll worry about American concentration camps.
People frankly got Hitler on the brain. The USA is more like China at the end of it’s latest imperial period, or France just before the revolution…there are few similarities to Germany in the thirties. (And not to mention that these camp theories have been making the rounds for a good ten years or longer, I mean talk about a stale conspiracy, yeesh.) For now I’ll worry about war with Iran and economic collapse. Maybe both, wouldn’t that be fun? One could also trigger the other. I do think Bush can finish his term without either transpiring, and when he does I’ll campaign to have a statue of him placed in the Washington Mall.
I plan on only updating Doug’s Darkworld five days a week from now on, Monday through Friday mornings. This will allow me to put together more complete single topic posts and generally improve the quality of my writing and research. I still have posts on logic, Iraq, animal consciousness, and Mars in the pipeline. And more discussion about the possibility of war with Iran, some people made thought provoking comments on my last such post. As ever suggestions for post topics are appreciated and may even be acted upon eventually.
I hope everyone had a good Labour Day weekend. God Bless and good tidings.
